Big Bear Halibut Charters has been operating out of Homer, Alaska for the past 32 years and has won the Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby 6 times! Our captains are USCG licensed and all of our staff are extremely well trained, we know where the big fish are. Along with acquiring a change of name in the spring of 2005 Big Bear Halibut Charters received a new desire for excellence in everything it represents. Our boats received a makeover including new Volvo-Penta turbo diesel engines, detailed cleaning, new leather sofas, and an extreme stress upon our staff to keep clean, safe, and well maintained vessels.

The owners of Bear Country Fishing Village which includes Big Bear Halibut Charters are Rob and Cherise Hyslip. The Hyslip Family spends their summer months in Homer which they believe is one of the most beautiful places on earth; during the winter they reside in Palmer, Alaska. Rob and Cherise are the executive directors at the Dream Center of Alaska in Palmer. The Dream Center is a non-profit organization which takes in people between the ages of 18 and 59 who have life controlling issues. They are taught life skills and are taken from the position of being a burden to society and restored to a working productive person with a new dream for their life.
